How to set homework

Setting homework is a great way to reinforce learning between lessons, encourage independent study, and track your learner's progress over time.

The BrightPath Homework feature allows you to create and manage homework assignments in just a few steps. You can provide instructions, set a due date, attach supporting resources, and assign a difficulty level to help students stay engaged and organised.

Creating a homework assignment

To create a new homework assignment:

  1. Log in to your Tutor Dashboard.
  2. Click Homework from the navigation menu.
  3. Click Create Homework.
  4. Select the Student.
  5. Select the Subject.
  6. Enter a Homework Title.
  7. Choose the Due Date and time.
  8. (Optional) Select a Difficulty Level.
  9. (Optional) Enter the Total Points available for the assignment.
  10. Add a Description explaining the task and any instructions the student should follow.
  11. (Optional) Add a Hint to help the student if they become stuck.
  12. (Optional) Upload any supporting files, such as worksheets, PDFs, presentations, images, videos, or other learning resources.
  13. Click Create Homework.

Once the homework has been created, the student and their parent or guardian will automatically receive a notification that a new assignment is available.

Homework fields explained

When creating homework, you can customise the assignment using the following fields:

DESCRIPTION

Student

Select the learner you are assigning the homework to.

Subject

Choose the subject related to the homework.

Homework Title

Give the assignment a clear and descriptive title.

Due Date

Set the date and time by which the homework should be completed.

Difficulty Level

Indicate how challenging the assignment is (optional).

Total Points

Assign a point value if you wish to grade the homework (optional).

Description

Provide clear instructions, expectations, and any additional information the student needs to complete the task.

Hint

Offer an optional clue or tip that students can use if they need extra guidance.

Attachments

Upload supporting resources such as PDFs, Word documents, Excel files, PowerPoint presentations, images, videos, or ZIP files (optional).

To help your learners get the most from their homework:

  • Use clear, concise, and easy-to-follow instructions.
  • Set realistic due dates that give students enough time to complete the work.
  • Include supporting resources where appropriate.
  • Use the Hint field to encourage independent problem-solving without giving away the answer.
  • Ensure homework aligns with the topics covered during your lessons.

A well-planned homework assignment helps reinforce learning, builds confidence, and keeps students engaged between lessons.
